Joel Embiid admits loving New York crowd’s hostile ‘F Embiid’ chants in Madison Square Garden
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks are famously known to have one of the most dedicated fanbases in NBA history. The fans never fail to give a hard time to the opposing team’s players when they visit Madison Square Garden. Now that the playoffs are here, fans of course did not budge to let the Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid hear some harsh words.

In the past, players like Trae Young have taken offense to the New York Knicks‘ hostile crowd and have somewhat formed a villainous reputation. However, Joel Embiid is surprisingly looking from a different perspective. In the post-game interview, the star revealed not being bothered by the chants.

It’s not hostile. I love New York….If I’ve got to be the punching bag and you hear a lot of ‘F Embiid,’ that’s ok. I love it. Joel Embiid said

From chanting ‘F*** Embiid’ to the star at the free throw line to booing his every move, Knicks fans did leave space for Embiid to breathe. However, the 30-year-old did not have anything against the crowd. On the contrary, the star uses the trolling as fuel as it pushes him to perform better in the game. Embiid also praised the fans for their dedication and constant support for the Knicks.

The former MVP was an essential part of the Philadelphia 76ers in game 5 despite Tyrese Maxey leading the team to a win. Embiid gave many reasons for the fans to be upset as he scored a triple-double with 19 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists and defeated the Knicks at home.

Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey had each other’s backs in game 5

Despite the triple-double performance, Embiid was struggling to shoot from the field and had nine turnovers. Hence in crucial minutes, Maxey stepped up and dropped 46 points in the win. In the post-game interview, Embiid praised the young star for his clutch performance.

Based on what was happening. Me not being able to be myself he [Maxey] just had to do it. He did it. That's why he's such an amazing basketball player. Joel Embiid said

Maxey’s outing saved the Sixers’ season as the team has now forced game 6. After the game, the duo shared a moment where Maxey hyped Embiid for the next two wins. “We got two more. I got you, let’s go”, Tyrese Maxey said.

The Sixers need two more wins to qualify for the next round as they currently trail 2-3. If Embiid succeeds in turning around his performance in game 5, the Knicks could face some serious problems at the Sixers’ home ground. Looking at the series so far, there is a high chance the matchup will be taken to game 7.
