Steelers QB Russell Wilson Receives Wild Prediction From Analyst
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers completely revamped their quarterback room this offseason, signing Russell Wilson and swinging a trade for Justin Fields.

That’s a stark change from last year, when the Steelers rolled out Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph under center.

Still, many have questions about just how Wilson will perform in Pittsburgh after a subpar two-year stretch with the Denver Broncos.

But Fox Sports analyst Craig Carton thinks that Wilson is set to have a huge season and will end up winning Comeback Player of the Year.

Carton qualifies his statement by saying that he is not even a huge fan of Wilson, but thinks that the veteran signal-caller will throw for over 4,000 yards and lead the Steelers to the playoffs.

He even thinks Pittsburgh will be battling for the AFC North division title, which would be quite the feat given that it is probably the toughest division in football.

Wilson spent the first decade of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, making nine trips to the Pro Bowl and leading the Seahawks to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 campaigns, with the former season culminating in a championship.

The 34-year-old was then traded to the Broncos in March 2022 and was expected to transform Denver’s franchise, but instead, he posted the worst season of his NFL career in his debut campaign there, throwing 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He bounced back a bit in 2023, finishing with 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight picks, but he was benched for the final two games of the year after declining to defer his injury guarantee.

The Broncos proceeded to release Wilson, and he went on to sign with the Steelers.

Pittsburgh doesn’t exactly have a great set of weapons right now, as it lacks a true No. 2 receiver behind George Pickens, but they are obviously hoping that third-round pick Roman Wilson can fill that void.

We’ll see if Russell Wilson can turn back the clock in 2024.
